Get ready to join a legacy of champions with Kimura Shukokai Karate! For over 40 years, the SKF has been training and producing some of the world's top KSI champions, European champions, and even English, British, and Commonwealth All Styles champions.
Our secret to success lies in our commitment to traditional karate, core strength, and fundamentals. It all started with Master Kimura, and it's been passed down through our founder, Shihan Daniels, and all of our instructors. With us, you'll get the best of the best - and you'll become the best too.
Our syllabus is broken down into three core areas -
These fundamental building blocks are essential for any student, regardless of their level of experience. Through our rigorous training, you'll develop skills in self-defense, respect, and hard work that will set you apart from the rest.
All karateka start their training as a white belt and you will be taught what you need by some of the best Kimura Shukokai instructors in the world. Everyone is different and everyone is looking for something different from their training, and whilst you might be planning on being the next world champion or just looking to learn something new and keep fit, one thing remains the same - Grading!
Grading with SKF first progresses through the coloured belts white, yellow, orange, green, blue and purple. Each colour adds to the last, brings more basic skills and has its own associated pinan kata. You can expect to do these gradings with your local instructor at a time to suit your own journey when you are ready.
Next come our 3 brown belt grades known as 3rd, 2nd and finally 1st "Kyu". Represented by white stripes on a brown belt they also add to the basics and expectations of the coloured belts as well as introducing advanced kata and kumite techniques. Brown Belt gradings are taken with our senior instructors at our twice yearly courses held at SKF HQ Portway.
For most people the next stage is considered the pinnacle of martial arts - Black Belt. Whilst it's true that it is an unbelievable achievement, reserved for those truly committed to their training, those that reach this milestone recognise that it is only the end of one journey and the start of the next.
Split into 10 levels (Dan), Black belts are only awarded by our Chief Instructors or KSI World Instructors at official national and international courses. Along side demonstrating complex kata and technique, that can take a lifetime to learn, our Black belts learn to take that knowledge and pass it on to the next generation of karateka.
